New Mexico now offers mobile driver’s licenses

New Mexico residents can now add their driver’s license to their Apple or Google Wallet on their smartphone, making it the 12th state in the country to offer this option. Taxation and Revenue Department Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke said that this new feature is meant to provide convenience and simplicity when verifying age or identity at businesses.

The process to add a digital driver’s license is straightforward, with the added benefit of enhanced safety and confidence in identification. The mobile driver’s license is securely encrypted and linked to the MVD database in real-time. Users will also be prompted to provide various facial angles to verify their identity, similar to setting up facial recognition on a smartphone.

While the mobile driver’s license option is available, residents are still encouraged to carry a physical license as well. Businesses can learn more about accepting mobile driver’s licenses. This new digital ID option aims to streamline identification processes and provide an additional form of verification for individuals in New Mexico.
