Bronco Mendenhall departs New Mexico for coaching position at Utah State | Sports

Bronco Mendenhall, the former head coach of the New Mexico Lobos, has made the move to Utah State as their new head coach. Mendenhall, a Utah native and former head coach of BYU, signed a six-year deal with the Aggies. He expressed his excitement for the opportunity to develop young players and transform the football program at Utah State.

Mendenhall led BYU to numerous bowl games and successful seasons during his tenure there. His coaching record also includes a stint at Virginia before his move to Utah State. The Aggies finished the season 4-8 under interim coach Nate Dreiling, following the firing of Blake Anderson over the summer amid misconduct allegations within the team.

Utah State athletic director Diana Sabau praised Mendenhall’s leadership and track record, highlighting his ability to develop student-athletes both on and off the field. The Aggies are looking forward to the new era under Mendenhall, as they prepare to join the Pac-12 Conference in 2026.

Mendenhall’s coaching experience and dedication to building strong programs have made him an ideal choice for Utah State. His focus on character, discipline, and excellence aligns with the values of the university, setting the stage for a successful future for the Aggies under his leadership.
