Artificial intelligence could aid in detecting wildfires in New Mexico in the near future

Xcel Energy is partnering with Pano AI to develop technology that could improve response times to wildfires in New Mexico. The camera system, set to be tested in the panhandle of Texas, will do a 360° sweep every minute for smoke and provide precise location information to investigators and first responders. Firefighters will have direct access to this information, which is expected to shorten response times significantly. Xcel Energy plans to launch the technology with 50 cameras in high-risk areas and hopes to have them in eastern New Mexico within five years.

Arvind Satyam, the co-founder of Pano AI, stated that the company is exploring potential locations for their technology in New Mexico and is in discussions with various stakeholders interested in their wildfire detection technology. After the wildfires earlier this year, there is a recognized need for advanced wildfire detection and mitigation solutions in the state. Pano AI is committed to partnering with communities and organizations to enhance wildfire resilience and provide innovative tools to protect lives, infrastructure, and the environment.
