NM State Falls to UTEP in Finale Despite Offensive Dominance
The NM State Aggies faced a tough loss against the UTEP Miners in their 2024 finale, despite outgaining their opponents by 543 yards to 298. The Aggie offense had their best performance of the season, with quarterback Parker Awad throwing for 340 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Mike Washington rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown. However, UTEP capitalized on two fumble recoveries for touchdowns and a 93-yard punt return for a touchdown, securing a 42-35 victory.
The game saw a back-and-forth battle, with the Aggies taking an early lead but ultimately falling behind in the second half. Despite a strong offensive showing, including multiple scoring plays and a new program record set by kicker Abraham Montaño with a 59-yard field goal, the Aggies couldn’t maintain their lead against the Miners.
Notable performances included Awad’s season-high passing stats, multiple touchdown receptions by different players, and a standout day for running back Washington. The Aggies ended the game with 543 total yards and 33 first downs, their best performance of the season in both categories.
The loss marks the end of the season for the Aggies, who will now shift their focus towards preparing for the 2025 season. For more updates on NM State football, fans can visit NMStateSports.com and follow the team on social media.
