As it happened: Trump’s new “border czar” pledges to secure the southern US border, updates from the Trump administration

Tom Homan, Donald Trump’s incoming “border czar,” promised to secure the Texas-Mexico border during a visit to Eagle Pass, Texas. He praised Operation Lone Star, a $11 billion border security initiative, and vowed to secure the nation to the highest level ever seen under the incoming Trump administration. Homan warned Democratic governors and mayors against blocking Trump’s proposed mass deportations, stating, “Don’t cross that line. Don’t test us.”

Additionally, the White House confirmed that the incoming Trump administration has signed transition paperwork, called the White House memorandum of understanding. However, the team declined to sign a separate agreement with the General Services Administration, leading to negotiations with the Department of Justice. By not signing the agreement with the General Services Administration, the Trump transition team will forgo federal funding, equipment, office space, and security.

They mentioned that internal polling never showed Harris leading president-elect Donald Trump and noted that Democrats need to stop eating their own and learn from how Republicans support their own. Kamala Harris also thanked small-dollar donors for helping to raise $1.4 billion during her 107-day campaign, expressing pride in the race run and emphasizing the fight for freedom and opportunity.
