Christine Heller Seaman, a New York woman, has been haunted by the disappearance of her grandparents, Catherine and Charles Romer, for 44 years. The couple vanished in 1980 while traveling home from Miami Beach, Florida, in their 1978 Lincoln Continental. Law enforcement suspected foul play due to Catherine Romer wearing $81,000 worth of jewelry. They were last seen checking into a Holiday Inn in Brunswick, Georgia.
Recently, a submerged Lincoln Continental was discovered in a Georgia pond, potentially belonging to the Romers. A human bone was found in the car, along with personal belongings like jewelry and a license plate. Although positive identification has not yet been made, Seaman’s family believes the couple may have died in an accident rather than being victims of a crime.
Seaman fondly remembers her grandmother as the “life of the party” who loved thoroughbred racing and traveling. Charles Romer was described as a “lovely and generous man.” Seaman and her family recently enjoyed Thanksgiving with a sense of resolve and celebration, thanks to the potential progress in solving the mystery of her grandparents’ disappearance.
Seaman expressed gratitude towards investigators and diving teams involved in finding the submerged car. She mentioned the immense impact of strangers going to extensive measures to help resolve the mystery and bring peace of mind to her family. Although the case is not yet closed, Seaman feels a sense of closure and gratitude towards those who have aided in the search for answers.
