Munich Airport is making strides towards sustainability with the implementation of 20 emission-free, electric ground power units (eGPUs) by the end of 2024. These devices are designed to reduce noise and environmental pollution on the airport’s apron, with the first two already in use by AeroGround. By December 2024, all 20 eGPUs will be in operation, making two-thirds of Munich’s ground power units more sustainable. This move is part of the airport’s ‘Net Zero 2035’ sustainability programme, with an expected annual reduction of 8,000 tons of CO2 emissions. The procurement of these eGPUs was made possible by €5.6m in funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. This investment exemplifies Munich Airport’s commitment to environmental stewardship and reducing their carbon footprint.
