Sam Benastick, a 20-year-old man from Kamloops, Canada, was found safe after being reported missing for more than five weeks on a camping trip in the Northern Rockies. He flagged down two people working at Redfern Lake trail in Redfern-Keily Park, who recognized him as the missing person and took him to a hospital. Benastick had camped in his car, on a mountainside, and in a dry creek bed before being found. Search and rescue teams, including Kamloops Search and Rescue, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, Fort Nelson, North Peace teams, Canadian Rangers, and local volunteers, participated in the search. The effort to locate Sam was significant, and the outcome of finding him alive was described as outstanding. The Redfern-Keily Park, where Sam was located, is located about 561 miles north of Vancouver and 486 miles north of Kamloops. Sam’s family and the search and rescue teams involved wished him a speedy recovery, as his condition upon being found was not disclosed. The successful outcome of finding Sam alive was a relief, as after being missing for so long, the worst was feared.
