Costco recalls organic eggs due to salmonella concerns

Costco is recalling approximately 10,800 units of organic eggs sold under its Kirkland Signature brand due to potential salmonella contamination. The affected eggs were sold in 25 Costco stores in five states starting on Nov. 22. These eggs have a Julian code of 327 and a “use by” date of Jan. 6, 2025. Handsome Brook Farms, the New York-based company behind the eggs, initiated the recall after finding that eggs not meant for stores were mistakenly packaged and distributed for retail sale. No illnesses have been reported so far in connection with the recalled eggs.

Consumers who have purchased the affected eggs are advised to return them to their local Costco store for a full refund or dispose of them. The company is implementing additional controls and retraining to prevent similar incidents in the future. The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the FDA. Other products sold at Costco are not affected by this recall. It is important for consumers to check the packaging and dates of products they purchase and to follow food safety guidelines to protect themselves from potential contaminants like salmonella.
