The New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame has announced its latest inductees, who will be honored at a banquet on June 29. The six new members include basketball star Randy Brown, rodeo legend Roy Cooper, golf agent Steve Loy, Paralympics medalist Alana Nichols, NFL player Michael Sinclair, and former New Mexico State linebacker Fredd Young.
These inductees have impressive athletic resumes, with Brown enjoying a successful career in the NBA, Cooper being a rodeo champion, Loy representing top golfers, Nichols excelling in wheelchair basketball and alpine skiing, Sinclair dominating in the NFL, and Young standing out as a linebacker.
A news conference on December 28 at the Albuquerque Convention Center will formally introduce the new inductees, followed by their introduction at the New Mexico Bowl. Brown’s dynamic play on the court at NMSU and his success in the NBA is highlighted, while Sinclair’s knack for sacking quarterbacks in the NFL and Nichols’ inspiring journey from wheelchair basketball to alpine skiing are also noted.
Loy’s determination on the football field despite facing adversity, and Cooper’s family legacy in rodeo and his achievement as a calf-roping champion at a young age, are also celebrated. These new inductees bring a diverse range of talents and accomplishments to the Hall of Fame, showcasing the rich sports history of New Mexico.
