Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill had traffic infractions against him dismissed on Monday due to officers not attending court, leading to a lack of prosecution. The allegations of careless driving and not wearing a seat belt were dismissed by the Miami-Dade County Traffic Infraction Hearing Officer, Patricia Henrys. This came as a surprise to Miami-Dade police, who called it an oversight and stated that the citations had merit, but the officer not attending the hearing was the reason for dismissal.
Hill appeared to celebrate the dismissal on social media, prompting attention from a local radio personality. The incident in question occurred when Hill was pulled over by Miami-Dade police on his way to a Dolphins game on September 8. Hill was handcuffed and placed face down on the pavement, leading to a tense confrontation caught on video. Fellow Dolphins teammates also stopped to help Hill during the incident.
Following the dismissal of the traffic infractions, Hill expressed relief that the situation did not escalate further given the level of force used by officers. He reflected on the fact that as a high-profile athlete, he believes he was treated differently than others would have been in a similar situation. Despite the incident, Hill still managed to have a successful game on September 8, catching seven passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.
