The official results of the 2024 general elections in New Mexico have been certified by the State Canvassing Board, with a total of 928,290 voters casting their ballots, representing 67.13% of registered voters. The board also noted a significant increase in provisional ballots compared to the 2020 election.
Following the results, a recount has been ordered for District 57 in the New Mexico House of Representatives, where a seat was left vacant by Republican Rep. Jason Harper. Currently, the race for the district is split by a small margin of 130 votes out of 16,618 cast, with Republican Catherine Jeanette Cullen holding a slight lead over Democrat Michelle Eleanor Sandoval.
The recount is scheduled to be finalized on December 16th, as required when candidates are separated by less than 1% of the total votes cast. Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver praised the election’s efficiency and integrity, despite delays in same-day registration that led to an increase in provisional ballots and early morning outages.
