Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Day One Fund has pledged $110 million to 40 organizations across the country, with two New Mexico charities, Catholic Charities and the Barrett Foundation, set to receive $6 million over five years. The Day One Families Fund supports non-profit charities helping families experiencing homelessness, and Catholic Charities plans to use the funds to expand services and help an additional 275 families over the next five years. They also plan to increase their staffing to better serve their community.
The Barrett Foundation will use their $1.25 million grant to hire a new intensive housing and employment navigator to assist women in need, as well as provide financial assistance for initial housing costs. This marks the seventh year of the Day One Families Fund, with only two New Mexico organizations being selected in previous years. This funding will greatly benefit these charities and the families they serve in New Mexico.
