NM State Men’s Basketball team faces UNLV in a showdown at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday. The Aggies, with a 3-1 record, are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Dayton. A win against UNLV would not only break a three-decade losing streak against them but also extend their winning streak in the series to 10 games.
Key to the Aggies’ success has been their defense, ranked 30th in the nation and their dominance on the boards, ranking 11th nationally in rebounds. Despite losing key players from last season, the team is excited about the new transfer and freshman talent stepping up this season. The team boasts a promising KenPom ranking of 154, indicating their potential for success this season.
Additionally, the Aggies are welcoming seven new players this season, including standout transfers Dionte Bostick, Peter Filipovity, and Zawdie Jackson. The Tshimanga brothers, Emmanuel, and Nate, bring a unique family bond to the team, further strengthening their lineup. With familiar faces like Christian Cook, Robert Carpenter, and Jaden Harris returning to the squad, the Aggies are looking to make an impact this season.
UNLV, under Head Coach Kevin Kruger, presents a tough challenge with guards Dedan Thomas Jr and Jeremiah “Bear” Cherry leading the charge. The Rebels are coming off of a strong 80-59 victory over Pepperdine and will be a formidable opponent for the Aggies.
