Space Technology Revolutionizes Weather Preparedness: Preparing for Extreme Weather

Experts in government, academia, and the commercial sectors will be coming together for a webinar to discuss the transformative power of space technology in predicting and addressing severe weather challenges. Hosted by David Ariosto, the event will feature speakers such as Marshall Shepherd from the University of Georgia and Dan Slagen from Tomorrow.io.

Highlighted at the webinar will be NOAA’s next-generation GeoXO satellite system, which will expand observations beyond the current GOES-R Series to include new measurements of Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. BAE Systems has been selected to develop three out of five instruments for GeoXO, including the Atmospheric Composition, Ocean Color, and GeoXO Sounder instruments. These instruments are expected to collect significantly more data than previous ones, providing measurements every one to two hours to improve forecast models and enhance the accuracy of warnings related to severe weather events, air quality, and harmful algal blooms.

The goal of the webinar is to explore how advancements in satellite systems, Predictive AI, and cross-sector collaboration are contributing to the protection of lives and businesses against climate-driven risks. By equipping stakeholders with actionable data, these technologies are helping decision-makers make informed choices in the face of severe weather events.

Those interested in participating can register online, with communications from SpaceNews and partners being part of the consent when signing up. The event promises to provide valuable insights into the latest developments in space technology and its role in tackling severe weather challenges.
