No. 15 Texas A&M rebounded from a tough SEC loss to South Carolina with a dominant 38-3 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday night. Quarterback Marcel Reed threw two touchdowns and ran for another score, leading the team to victory in less than three quarters of play. The Aggies led 17-0 after the first quarter and never looked back, outgaining New Mexico State 273-50 in that period.
The win was crucial for Texas A&M as they now have one more game to improve before a highly anticipated Thanksgiving weekend matchup with rival No. 3 Texas. The Aggies are aiming for a spot in the SEC championship game and a chance at the expanded College Football Playoff.
The game also served as a moment of remembrance, as Texas A&M honored the 12 people who lost their lives in a campus bonfire tragedy ahead of the 25th anniversary of the collapse. The team had a moment of silence before the game to honor the victims, and a maroon ribbon with the years 1999 and 2024 was painted on each end of the field.
Running back Amari Daniels shined in the absence of injured Le’Veon Moss, rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown. EJ Smith, son of NFL legend Emmitt Smith, also had a strong game with a season-high 60 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Next, Texas A&M will face Auburn on the road while New Mexico State will visit Middle Tennessee, looking to bounce back from their loss.
