Today is Election Day in New Mexico and thousands of votes have already been cast in the state. With over 663,000 votes during the early voting period, the turnout is already significant. As of 9:00 am on Election Day, 38,249 more ballots have been cast, bringing the total ballots cast in New Mexico to 707,108.
In Bernalillo County alone, there are 72 voting locations open until 7:00 tonight. Voters are reminded that they only need to show their ID if they are first-time voters who did not include ID with their registration form. Same-day voter registration is available at every polling location for those who have not registered yet.
For absentee ballots, voters are reminded not to mail them today as they will not be counted. Instead, they must be dropped off at a polling location. Additionally, campaigning within 100 feet of a location is not allowed.
The New Mexico Secretary of State has reported that voter turnout is over 50% of total registered voters in the state.
