Rio Rancho Community Unites After Tragic Accident
Rio Rancho, N.M. — A strong sense of community has emerged in Rio Rancho following a tragic car crash that claimed the lives of several family members. The accident occurred last Wednesday on King Boulevard near Sheba Drive, resulting in two cars colliding and catching fire. Among the victims were Craig and Meghan Miller and their four children. The family’s GoFundMe page reveals that Craig and their 11-month-old daughter died instantly, along with the couple’s unborn son. Tragically, the Millers’ six-year-old son succumbed to his injuries four days later, leaving Meghan and her two remaining sons hospitalized.
In addition to the Millers, the other driver involved in the crash is recovering from serious injuries and has recently undergone surgery, as per information from their own GoFundMe account. A memorial has been set up at the crash site, reflecting the deep sorrow within the community.
Local business owners Molly and Armando Martinez, who run Turquoise Desert and Dulce River Bakery, mobilized quickly to support the affected families. “We were shocked when we heard the news,” said Armando. “We wanted to give back to the community.” Through a fundraiser organized within just two days, the community rallied together, generating between $4,000 to $6,000 in support.
Chastity Bustos, another local business owner, opened her establishment, Whiptail, specifically to help. “We were sold out by 4:30 p.m.," she noted, highlighting the immense turnout. Even after running out of food, donations continued to pour in.
The businesses plan to hold a raffle to further aid the families in need. The resilience and compassion displayed by Rio Rancho residents is a testament to the strength of their community spirit in times of tragedy.
