ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Film Office (NMFO) has announced that filming will soon commence for a new Netflix series titled “The Boroughs,” set to take place in and around Albuquerque. This eight-episode supernatural mystery is expected to provide significant economic benefits to the region by employing over 2,000 New Mexicans, including 275 crew members and 32 principal actors, along with 1,934 background talent.

The show features a star-studded cast, including acclaimed actors such as Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman. The storyline revolves around an idyllic retirement community that hides dark secrets. A group of unlikely heroes will band together to confront an otherworldly threat that seeks to steal the one thing they lack – time.

Ben Taylor, who will direct several episodes including the pilot, is set to serve as an executive producer alongside the Duffer Brothers, known for their hit series “Stranger Things,” and Hilary Leavitt.

The NMFO expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting its potential to showcase New Mexico’s vibrant landscape and creative talent. With the film industry rapidly expanding in the state, this production marks another chapter in Albuquerque’s growing reputation as a prime location for television and film projects.

As preparations for “The Boroughs” take shape, local communities and businesses eagerly await the influx of opportunities. The series is poised to highlight both the scenic beauty of New Mexico and the rich storytelling capabilities that the state has to offer.
