Texas A&M Aggies Dominate New Mexico State in 38-3 Victory
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The Texas A&M Aggies celebrated a commanding 38-3 victory over New Mexico State on November 16, 2024, marking their eighth win of the season. Although the score suggests a flawless performance, Coach Mike Elko noted that the team did not operate at its peak efficiency during the game.
Elko and offensive coordinator Collin Klein opted for a conservative approach aimed at refining the team’s execution rather than running up the score. While the Aggies exhibited solid play, inconsistencies in their deep passing game persisted. Starting quarterback Conner Weigman encountered difficulties, completing only two of five passes before being replaced by freshman Miles O’Neill, who succeeded with a touchdown on his limited attempts.
In terms of standout performances, tight end Theo Melin Ohrstrom had his best game of the season, catching five passes for 111 yards. Running back Amari Daniels, who chose to stay at A&M despite transfer opportunities, shined with a spectacular 71-yard touchdown run on just five carries.
On the defensive end, Malick Sylla excelled, leading the team with five tackles and two sacks, showcasing the depth of A&M’s defensive line. However, running back EJ Smith struggled to find his rhythm, gaining only 60 yards on 15 carries, a performance that left room for improvement ahead of upcoming crucial matches.
Despite the victory, the coaching staff has considerable footage to analyze for continued development as they head into the final stretch of the season, looking to build on their 8-3 record. The Aggies now turn their attention to refining their game plan as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
