A lone assailant went on a stabbing spree in different locations in New York City, killing two men and critically wounding a woman. The attacks occurred in the morning of the same day, with the assailant attacking his victims with a knife in unprovoked incidents. The first victim was a 36-year-old man working at a construction site and the second was a 68-year-old man fishing at the end of a street. The woman was stabbed near the United Nations and is in critical condition. A “person of interest”, described as a 51-year-old homeless man with a long arrest record, was captured by police shortly after the attacks. The suspect was apprehended thanks to a vigilant taxi driver who witnessed the attack on the woman. Mayor Eric Adams praised the actions of the person who notified the police and the officer who took quick action to capture the suspect. The victims’ identities have not been released pending notification of their families. Police do not believe there are any other suspects connected to these stabbings. The motive behind the attacks remains unclear as authorities continue to investigate the incident.
