Shocking Discovery: 20 Human Skulls Unearthed in an Abandoned New Mexico House

Unsettling Discovery of Human Skulls at New Mexico Home Following Hitchhiking Incident

In a bizarre turn of events reminiscent of a Hollywood thriller, human skulls and other skeletal remains were unearthed at a home in Jal, New Mexico, after a hitchhiking ride took a disturbing twist. The incident began when an unidentified resident offered a ride to Cecil Villanueva, who reportedly made alarming statements during the trip, throwing various items from his bags, including bone fragments.

Concerning the unsettling behavior, the driver contacted the Lea County Sheriff’s Office, prompting an immediate investigation. Authorities searched the area where Villanueva discarded items and uncovered bone fragments confirmed by a pathologist as human remains. Further searching led investigators to a home where Villanueva was staying, revealing even more fragments and evidence suggesting the presence of 10 to 20 human skulls.

Villanueva has since been incarcerated in the Lea County jail, facing charges for misdemeanor criminal trespass related to alleged squatting in the abandoned house. Intriguingly, one of the skulls could potentially belong to Angela McManes, a woman reported missing in 2019 from the same region. However, investigators are exploring the possibility that the skulls may have been purchased online, complicating the case further.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this disturbing case to reach out to the Lea County Sheriff’s Office at (575-396-3611) or Lea County Crimestoppers at (575-393-8005). The chilling discovery of human remains has left the community in shock, as the investigation continues to unfold.
