Weather Update: New Mexico Experiencing Rain and Snow as Storm System Moves

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A fresh low-pressure system is bringing rain and high-elevation snow to areas between the Organ Mountains and the Northeast Highlands. Eastern New Mexico is witnessing damp conditions alongside breezy northwesterly winds, while the Four Corners area is experiencing much colder, clearer weather.

The eastern regions report temperatures in the 30s and 40s, while the west sees lows in the teens and 20s, particularly around Gallup. As the storm system shifts northeast, expect clearer skies and a slight rise in temperatures, aided by an increase in southwesterly winds that will help dry out the atmosphere. However, this comes with an elevated fire weather risk, particularly in southwestern areas, where blowing dust and patchy snow may also occur.

For today, temperatures are anticipated to rise into the upper 30s, 40s, 50s, and even low 60s across the northern two-thirds of the state, although southern regions will remain slightly below normal. Over the next couple of days, colder, drier air will usher in another brief storm system tomorrow, producing gusty conditions in some northern areas. However, by later in the week, forecasters predict a rebound in temperatures and a stabilization of winds, contributing to a more agreeable weather pattern.
