City Brights II Set to Illuminate Downtown Albuquerque with Temporary Art Installations
Albuquerque, NM – The City of Albuquerque’s Department of Arts & Culture has announced City Brights II, a vibrant collaboration with the Public Art Urban Enhancement Division and Albuquerque ArtWalk, aimed at energizing and illuminating Downtown Albuquerque. This ambitious initiative will feature eleven temporary, light-based art installations created by local artists, strategically placed in businesses and on city properties, enhancing the urban landscape in unique and interactive ways.
The diverse array of talented artists involved in this project includes James Black, Chris Casey, Celestino Crowhill, and others, each bringing their distinctive vision to life. The installations will comprise architectural lighting elements, illuminated sculptures, digital projections, and more, all designed to engage both residents and visitors as they explore downtown.
Mayor Tim Keller expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This imaginative project will create immersive experiences that connect families and visitors with the heart of our city. It’s a welcomed addition to Albuquerque’s robust art scene, one that will beautify Downtown while showcasing the creativity of local artists.”
City Brights II will kick off during the First Friday ArtWalks in December, January, and February, with installations remaining on display throughout the winter of 2025. This initiative aims not just to beautify the area but also to foster community engagement and economic vitality in downtown Albuquerque.
In conjunction with the art installations, the November 20, 2024 episode of the Public Art Take Another Look podcast will feature insights from project coordinator Christine Jelson West and artist James Black, discussing the significance and vision behind City Brights II.
