Eddie Garcia: Rain and Snow Gradually Approaching New Mexico

Rain and Snow Expected Across Southern New Mexico as Storm System Moves In

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A slow-moving storm system is set to deliver significant rainfall and potential snowfall to Southern New Mexico tonight through Monday morning. As it drifts across northern Mexico and the southern parts of the state, residents can expect rainfall amounts ranging from 0.75 to 1.75 inches in lower elevations, leading to minor flooding concerns, particularly in southern areas and the east central plains.

In the higher elevations, such as Sierra Blanca Peak, accumulating snow is anticipated overnight and into the morning hours, adding to the winter landscape. This storm will move out of the region by late Monday morning, making way for strong northwest winds that are predicted to sweep across the highlands and southeast plains by the afternoon.

Looking ahead, a colder weather system will pass through New Mexico on Tuesday, bringing brisk winds throughout many areas. As the temperatures dip on Tuesday and Wednesday, a more stable weather pattern is expected to settle in. Residents can anticipate a return of milder conditions and light winds from Thursday into early next weekend, thanks to high pressure building over the desert southwest.

New Mexico’s Chief Meteorologist Eddie Garcia provides further insights and updates in his forecast video. As the storm system continues to develop, residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for changing weather conditions.

Stay tuned for the latest weather updates as Southern New Mexico navigates this active storm pattern.
