Texas A&M dominates nonconference opponent

No. 15 Texas A&M dominated New Mexico State in a 38-3 victory at Kyle Field on Saturday night, securing their eighth win of the season in front of a crowd of 105,815. Despite a slow start from their offense, the Aggies managed to rack up a season-high 565 total yards, with quarterback Marcel Reed standing out with 268 yards passing and two touchdowns. Backup quarterbacks Conner Weigman and Miles O’Neill also saw some action.

The Aggies’ defense had a strong performance, holding New Mexico State to just 214 total yards and shutting down their passing game. Defensive end Malick Sylla impressed with five tackles, two sacks, and three tackles for loss. The absence of running back Le’Veon Moss, who is out for the season with an injury, led to a running back by committee approach with Amari Daniels, EJ Smith, and AJ DiNota combining for 165 yards on the ground.

Tight ends Theo Melin Öhrström and Tre Watson led the Aggies’ receiving corps with a combined 178 yards, showcasing their versatility beyond blocking. Overall, it was a team effort with several players getting their chance to shine on Senior Night. O’Neill threw his first career touchdown pass, Bethel-Roman scored his first college touchdown, and walk-ons filled the kickoff team.

The win was a testament to the team’s strong bond and camaraderie, with players expressing love and support for each other. With key players stepping up in the absence of Moss, the Aggies showed depth and resilience as they look to finish the season strong and push for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
