Texas A&M Dominates New Mexico State in a Convincing 38-3 Victory
KYLE FIELD, TX – Two weeks after suffering their first conference loss, the No. 15 Texas A&M football team returned to home turf Saturday night, defeating New Mexico State 38-3 in a commanding performance that reaffirmed their aspirations for an SEC title.
The Aggies wasted no time establishing dominance, scoring on their opening drive with an impressive eight-play sequence culminating in a 16-yard touchdown catch by junior wide receiver Noah Thomas. This momentum continued as junior running back Amari Daniels dashed 71 yards for another touchdown on the following possession, giving A&M an early 14-0 lead.
A&M’s defense was relentless, not allowing a completed pass in the first quarter and showcasing a strong performance by junior defensive end Nic Scourton, who increased his tackle-for-loss total to 14, making a case for SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Mike Elko praised his team’s efforts, emphasizing their belief in their superiority over New Mexico State.
As the game progressed into the second quarter, tight end Theo Melin Öhrström showcased his talent with a 57-yard reception, helping set up a touchdown by graduate WR Muhsin Muhammad III. Despite missing opportunities, including an interception late in the half, the Aggies continued their strong performance into the second half.
The A&M offense, led by freshman quarterback Miles O’Neill, added a final touchdown in the fourth quarter, securing a well-rounded victory. The defense’s tenacity kept New Mexico State out of the end zone, with junior defensive end Malick Sylla shining with two sacks.
Texas A&M improves to 9-2 and looks ahead to their matchup against Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium on November 23 at 6:30 p.m.
