CLLVIS, NM – James Burns, a well-known figure in the Clovis community and recent consultant for Nation’s Best, recently shared insights about his life, career, and personal values in an exclusive interview.
Originally from Clayton, New Mexico, Burns expresses a deep fondness for the picturesque rolling hills that surround the area, especially when rain blesses the landscape. His journey to Clovis began with love; a relationship sparked during his tenure as a traveling salesman motivated his decision to settle down in the city.
Burns held a business in Clovis since 1991 before selling his beloved Burns Do It Center. Now focused on two store locations in Texline and Tucumcari, he remains passionate about serving customers, finding satisfaction in helping solve their problems with the right tools and products.
When asked about his ideals for a perfect day, Burns highlighted his love for the outdoors, preferring calm winds and mild weather. Family is a significant part of his life; he and his wife, Katie, are proud parents of two accomplished children—an architect daughter, Mary Cate, in San Francisco, and son, Jay, who works as a test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base.
Burns reminisces about his childhood dreams of becoming a rancher, inspired by his grandfather’s life. Despite not following that path, he cherishes their connection to the land. In his personal reflections, he cites raising his children as his greatest achievement.
