UTSA’s Three-Pointers Deliver First Loss of the Season to Aggies

NM State Women’s Basketball Suffers First Defeat of the Season to UTSA

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State women’s basketball team encountered its first loss of the season on Thursday night, falling to UTSA 75-61 at the Pan American Center. The defeat marks a challenging moment for the Aggies, who had ambitions of maintaining an undefeated record.

UTSA capitalized on an efficient offensive display, shooting 50% from beyond the arc and an impressive 92.3% from the free-throw line. The Roadrunners improved their record to 2-1, while the Aggies now sit at 2-1 as well.

Molly Kaiser led the Aggies offensively, scoring 23 points, but the team struggled in rebounding, losing that battle by 17 boards. NM State fell behind early, trailing 25-16 at the end of the first quarter, the largest deficit the team has faced in this young season.

In the second quarter, the Aggies attempted to claw back into the game, fueled by contributions from players like Sylena Peterson, who provided crucial points off the bench. Despite cutting the lead to just one point at one moment, UTSA managed to extend the margin and left NM State staring at a six-point deficit at halftime.

As the game progressed into the second half, both teams exchanged leads but ultimately the Aggies could not regain control. Though they managed to narrow the gap in the fourth quarter, unable to capitalize in the final moments, NM State was left scoreless for the last two minutes, sealing their fate.

The Aggies’ next challenge comes on November 20 against Western New Mexico. The game is set to tip off at 6:00 PM MT and will be available for streaming on ESPN+. Fans can follow the action and stay updated via social media and the official NM State athletics website.
