KOATs for Kids Celebrates 35 Years of Providing Coats to New Mexico Children
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The KOATs for Kids program, now in its 35th year, launches its annual coat drive aimed at ensuring New Mexico’s children have warm coats for the winter. From October 14 to November 17, community members can donate new coats of all sizes, ages, and genders at convenient drop-off locations across the state, including local Albertsons markets, Blake’s Lotaburger, and Nusenda Credit Union.
The collected coats will be sorted and distributed to school districts throughout New Mexico, focusing on meeting the specific needs of students. As a part of this year’s initiative, a Live Drive will take place on November 15 at three Walmart locations in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, where donations will be accepted from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM. While cash donations will not be accepted at the Live Drive, monetary contributions can be made through a partnership with the United Way of North Central New Mexico, supporting the purchase of new coats for needy families.
Parents and guardians of public school children can obtain coats by contacting their child’s school counselor, as coats will not be distributed directly to the public.
The KOATs for Kids program aims to collect numerous coats over its 35-day campaign, with the goal of making a positive impact on the lives of New Mexico’s youth. Community participation is encouraged to ensure that every child can stay warm this winter. To find a donation location or for more information, visit the program’s website.
