Trump criticizes Harris for endorsing Biden’s ‘garbage’ remark

Former President Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s remarks in which he appeared to call Trump supporters “garbage.” This heated rhetoric comes as the election looms closer, with both sides engaging in a war of words. Biden clarified that he did not intend to call Trump supporters “garbage,” but rather was referring to negative comments made about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally. The White House released a transcript with an apostrophe to clarify Biden’s comments. However, Trump seized on this opportunity to criticize Biden and Harris, saying they cannot lead America if they do not love Americans.

The back-and-forth between the two camps was fueled by comments made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a Trump rally, where he referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.” This caused backlash, with Puerto Rican singer Nicky Jam withdrawing his support for Trump. Biden’s comments gave Trump an opening to attack Democrats and flip the script, similar to how Trump supporters embraced the term “basket of deplorables” after comments made by Hillary Clinton in 2016. The Trump campaign plans to use Biden’s remarks aggressively to hit Democrats.

The controversy threatened to overshadow a rally held by Vice President Kamala Harris, who had to distance herself from Biden’s comments. The heated rhetoric between the two sides is intensifying as Election Day approaches, with both camps using any misstep to their advantage in the final stretch of the campaign.
