Famous chef who was once homeless gives back | Lifestyle

Chef Dwayne Rhodes, a Telluride native with a Master’s Degree in Culinary Arts and a successful history of global restaurant ventures, recently applied his expertise to serve a three-course meal at a charity event for Serving Hope at HomewardBound of the Grand Valley’s Homeless Shelter. Rhodes, who had been housed by HomewardBound when he and his son were in need of shelter, saw this as his way of giving back.

Rhodes’ culinary journey began in 1981 and he has worked under notable chefs such as Oprah’s former personal chef and Anthony Bourdain. With a background in culinary arts that extends globally, Rhodes has won several international competitions and was the first American to win International Restaurant Week in the Mexican Riviera, twice.

After experiencing financial setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rhodes found himself back in the U.S. with his son, hoping to rebuild their lives. They eventually found shelter with HomewardBound in Grand Junction, Colorado, and Rhodes is now focused on establishing a stable life for his family in the area. Rhodes hopes to secure a job that will allow him to prioritize his son and reunite with his wife by January.

While Rhodes’ passion for the culinary arts remains strong, he is now focused on building a stable life for his family and sharing his love for food with his son. Rhodes aims to continue his culinary career while prioritizing his family and creating a lasting legacy in the Grand Valley.
