Edward Kelley, a Donald Trump supporter facing Jan. 6 charges, is also alleged to have plotted to kill FBI agents investigating him. He was seen wearing a gun holster during the Capitol breach and may have been armed, according to federal prosecutors. Kelley is still in pre-trial custody after being re-arrested for the alleged murder plot. He is set to go to trial in Tennessee on Nov. 18 for this case. During his trial in Washington, evidence was presented that Kelley appeared to be armed on Jan. 6. Despite not testifying, prosecutors provided strong evidence that he was wearing a concealed gun holster.
Kelley was seen at the front of the mob pointing at Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman before the mob entered the Senate chamber. Once inside, he took selfies and discussed a Time magazine story with his family about the 2020 election. Prosecutors argued that someone needed to be held accountable for breaching the Capitol. Over 1,500 people have been charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, with more than 1,100 convictions and over 600 defendants sentenced to varying periods of incarceration.
Kelley’s defense team did not present any witnesses during the trial, and Kelley himself did not testify. He is an anti-abortion activist and wore a sweatshirt with the initials TCAPP while storming the Capitol. Prosecutors introduced testimony from FBI Special Agent Jessi Mann, who demonstrated how Kelley’s gun holster worked. Prosecutors also presented evidence of Kelley purchasing ammunition and gas masks leading up to the attack. The case continues to be under investigation, and additional charges may be filed against Kelley as the trial progresses.
