Vandals target Congregation Mikveh Israel synagogue in Philadelphia three times in a single day

Congregation Mikveh Israel, one of the oldest synagogues in the United States, was targeted by vandals three times in one day, including an attempted arson. The incident occurred in Philadelphia, where a dumpster was set on fire next to the synagogue causing damage to a window. The following morning, two individuals were caught on video trying to break into the synagogue but did not enter the building. Later in the day, a religious statue was found vandalized with profanity written across it. Police have not made any arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Local Jewish leaders in the community expressed concern over the incidents, stating that the synagogue has been repeatedly targeted by acts of anti-Semitic vandalism in recent months. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia condemned the attacks, calling them a vile expression of Jew hatred that threatens not only the Jewish community but American society as a whole.

Congregation Mikveh Israel, known as the “Synagogue of the American Revolution,” has deep historical ties to Philadelphia and the nation’s founding. The federation called on public officials to unite in condemning the hatred and urged the community to stand strong against those seeking to harm them. Philadelphia police are asking anyone with information on the vandalism to come forward as they continue to investigate the incidents.
