Billionaires funneled millions of dollars into presidential super PACs during August

In August, wealthy donors across the nation contributed millions to super PACs supporting various political candidates and parties. The largest contributions were made to MAGA Inc., the super PAC backing former President Donald Trump, with Wisconsin roofing billionaire Diane Hendricks giving $10 million. Other notable donors to MAGA Inc. included Howard Lutnick and Paul Singer, who each gave $5 million. On the Democratic side, tech entrepreneurs were the biggest donors to FF PAC, supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

Super PACs like FF PAC and MAGA Inc. do not have limits on individual donations, making them attractive options for prolific political megadonors. Club for Growth Action, a conservative super PAC supporting GOP candidates, received major contributions from Jeff Yass and Richard Uihlein in August. Yass and Uihlein are known GOP megadonors who have supported conservative groups for multiple election cycles. On the Democratic side, House Majority PAC received a significant donation of $600,000 from Amos Hostetter Jr., a co-founder of Continental Cablevision, in August.

Overall, the August FEC reports reflect a trend of wealthy donors supporting super PACs affiliated with their preferred political candidates and parties. These donations play a significant role in funding political campaigns and influencing election outcomes, particularly as the 2022 midterm elections approach.
