Fugitive suspect charged with attempted murder after opening fire near Kentucky highway

The search for Joseph A. Couch, 32, who launched a mass shooting on a Kentucky highway over the weekend, continues as he has been charged with attempted murder and assault. Authorities described him as armed and dangerous. Five people were shot and seriously injured in the incident. The warrant charges Couch with five counts of attempted murder and five counts of first-degree assault. Once captured, he will face court processes quickly. The gunman opened fire from three different perches along a ridge overlooking the interstate, and an AR-15 believed to have been used in the shooting was found near his vehicle. Couch had served in the National Guard for at least four years and has a relatively clean record with only minor offenses. The investigation into the shooting and motive are ongoing. Laurel County Public Schools canceled classes as a precaution. Deputies are searching for Couch in the remote woods near the scene of the shooting. The community remains on high alert as law enforcement continues their search for the suspect.
