The sequel to “Beetlejuice,” directed by Tim Burton, has finally been released after 36 years, earning a record-breaking $110 million in its premiere weekend. The film stars Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder reprising their roles, along with newcomer Jenna Ortega. With a cast that includes Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux, the movie is the third-best opening weekend of the year, following “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Despite an opening weekend of just $8 million in 1988, the original “Beetlejuice” went on to become a cult classic, earning $77 million domestically. This sequel has now become the second-highest grossing September movie of all time, trailing only behind the 2017 film “It.” The success of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” marks a strong start to the fall movie season after a slow Labor Day weekend and a lackluster August at the box office.
