The father of the 14-year-old charged with murder in a Georgia school shooting had bought his son an AR-15 style rifle as a gift after the two were interviewed by law enforcement regarding threats to carry out a school shooting. The teenager, Colt Gray, fatally shot four people at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on his first full day as a new student. The father, Colin Gray, was arrested for allowing his son to possess a weapon and faces multiple charges. The teen had shown interest in prior mass shootings and had been investigated in May 2023 after online threats were reported to the FBI via Discord. However, inconsistencies in the investigation led local authorities to clear the case and no arrests were made. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith stated that despite the previous investigation, no proper cause for arrest was found at the time. However, students like Isaiah Hooks expressed frustration that authorities were aware of and monitoring the teen prior to the shooting but did not take stronger preventive measures. Hooks believes that the threat should have been better monitored and prevented to avoid the tragic events that took place at the school.
