Georgia High School Shooting Suspect Colt Gray’s Father Arrested for Gun Violence

Four people, including two students and two teachers, were killed in a high school shooting in Georgia on Wednesday. The father of the 14-year-old suspect, Colin Gray, was arrested and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children for allowing his son to possess the weapon used in the attack. The teenager, Colt Gray, has also been charged with four counts of murder and will be tried as an adult.

Investigators revealed that Colt used an AR platform-style weapon, which was believed to have been bought for him by his father as a holiday gift. The incident has reignited the debate on gun control in the United States, with President Joe Biden emphasizing the need for parents to be held accountable if their children have access to guns.

The shooting at Apalachee High School resulted in the deaths of two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, as well as teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie. Nine others were injured, with seven being students who are expected to make a full recovery. The case highlights the issue of parental responsibility in mass shootings, especially when firearms are easily accessible to minors in the home.

Experts and advocates have emphasized the importance of holding gun-owning parents accountable for gun violence carried out by their children. Studies have shown that a majority of school attackers obtained their weapons from their own homes. The tragedy at Apalachee High School adds to the ongoing discussion about gun laws in the US and the rights granted by the Second Amendment.
