Russian President Vladimir Putin boasted about the success of his military’s advance after Ukraine’s failed attempt to seize territory in Kursk, which he described as a sacred duty to protect Russian citizens. Despite this, Putin emphasized that Russia’s main goal remains capturing the Donbas region. He claimed that Ukraine’s offensive did not succeed, with Russian troops stabilizing the situation and advancing in the Donbas region.
Putin suggested that Ukraine’s manpower struggles may lead to them recruiting young people, likening it to Nazi Germany’s Hitlerjugend. He also criticized Ukrainian leaders, baselessly labeling them as Nazis. The Russian leader expressed support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming U.S. election, sarcastically stating that Russia will root for her due to her predecessor’s sanctions against Russia.
Interestingly, Putin’s support for Harris comes after the Biden administration announced sanctions and criminal charges against Russia for attempting to manipulate U.S. public opinion. Putin’s comments, filled with sarcasm, are likely to be dismissed by the White House and Harris campaign. Former President Donald Trump, perceived as the Kremlin’s preferred candidate, has been supportive of Putin and has promised to end the war in Ukraine on Russia’s terms. Putin’s statements at the economic forum in Vladivostok highlighted his confidence in Russia’s military advances and disdain for Ukraine’s actions.
