Cheney’s endorsement of Harris follows a trend of high-profile Republicans endorsing Democrats, with Harris receiving endorsements from over two dozen Republicans in August. Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, another Republican who served on the Jan. 6 commission, has also endorsed Harris, previously endorsing President Joe Biden during his campaign.
Cheney and Kinzinger’s endorsements reflect a growing sentiment among some Republicans who have been critical of Trump’s leadership and its impact on the GOP. Kinzinger, in particular, has spoken out against Trump, stating that he has “suffocated the soul” of the party. These endorsements from prominent Republicans signal a shift away from Trump within the party and a willingness to support Democratic candidates like Harris.
