Gabe Vasquez’s controversial past: Democratic politician from New Mexico involved in racial slur incident, marijuana charges, and traffic violations

New Mexico Rep. Gabe Vasquez’s past has been brought to light after new police reports reveal incidents from his wild youth. This includes using a racial slur to harass former colleagues after being fired from a call center in Las Cruces, New Mexico while he was a college student in 2004. Vasquez called a HR employee and used the slur ‘n***er’ and ‘Chris, the black man,’ which led to the police being involved.

Additionally, Vasquez faced police citations in 2005 for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia while attending New Mexico State University. He was also arrested and posted bond for failing to appear in court in 2002 for charges related to driving without a license and insurance in El Paso, Texas.

Police were also called for domestic incidents involving Vasquez and his ex-girlfriend in 2004 and 2007. The incidents included arguments and disagreements over alcohol consumption and behavior.

Vasquez responded to the allegations by stating that they are false and an attempt by Republicans to smear his character. He was elected to Congress in 2022 after beating incumbent Republican Yvette Herrell. Born in El Paso, Texas and raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Vasquez’s youth and past have come under scrutiny as he continues his political career.
