Oklahoma Sooners’ depth chart has sparked conversations among fans since its release, but there was also a late addition to the roster in defensive lineman David Rowaiye. Rowaiye, a former prospect out of Southeast High School, recently joined the team and will wear No. 54 for the Sooners. He was the first Division I recruit from Southeast since NFL player Gerald McCoy.
Although Rowaiye did not receive an offer from Oklahoma, he worked out with former OU defensive lineman Jimmy Wilkerson before committing to New Mexico in 2022. After spending two seasons with the Lobos without seeing any playing time, Rowaiye transferred to Oklahoma to add depth to the defensive tackle room.
Rowaiye’s journey to Norman was influenced by current OU offensive lineman Jacob Sexton, who encouraged him to pursue football and wrestling instead of basketball while they attended middle school together at Deer Creek. Now teammates again, the two will bring their talents to the Sooners lineup.
The addition of Rowaiye provides an exciting boost to the Sooners roster, and fans are eager to see how he will contribute to the team’s success.
