A British safety adviser working with a team of journalists in Ukraine was killed after a Russian missile struck a hotel in Kramatorsk. Ryan Evans, 38, was staying at the Hotel Sapphire when the missile hit, leaving two other members of the Reuters crew hospitalized with injuries. Evans had advised journalists on safety in various conflict zones, including Ukraine, Israel, and at the Paris Olympics. Local officials confirmed the hotel was hit by an Iskander-M Russian ballistic missile, causing blast injuries, concussions, and cuts. In addition to the hotel, a nearby multistory building was also destroyed.
In Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, multiple civilian injuries were reported due to Russian fire. In the Chuhuiv region, five people were injured, including a 4-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, after two houses were struck by a Russian attack. In Kharkiv city, eight people were wounded in a Russian strike that set a two-story house on fire. On the Russian side, five people were killed in Ukrainian shelling in the Belgorod border region, with twelve others wounded in a village near the Ukrainian border. One man also died in a separate drone attack in another border village. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, resulting in casualties on both sides.
