Families of Gaza school strike victims deny Hamas connections, assert their status as civilians in Israel-Palestine conflict.

24-year-old Sajida al-Kafarna and her family were among the roughly 2,400 displaced Palestinians seeking shelter at al-Tabin School in Deir el-Balah, Gaza. In the early hours of Saturday, a bomb hit the school while Sajida’s father, Abdul Aziz al-Kafarna, was inside the small mosque. Sajida and her family frantically searched for him among the chaos and devastation, ultimately finding his body buried under the remains of other victims.

Israel claimed that the school was a “command and control center” for Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters, but investigations by various organizations have found no evidence of military operations at the school. The attack resulted in the deaths of more than 100 Palestinians, many of whom were civilians.

Sajida and Manar Eltif, whose father was also killed in the attack, refuted Israel’s claims that their loved ones were fighters, stating that Abdul was a respected hospital administrator and Manar’s father was a retired school principal who was not involved in politics or military activities. Both families are devastated by the loss of their fathers, who were known for their kindness and dedication to helping others.

The families of the victims demand accountability for the Israeli attack on the school, which they believe resulted in the senseless deaths of innocent civilians. The international community has called for peace talks between Israel and Hamas to resume, as the situation in Gaza remains dire with ongoing violence and displacement.
