The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has escalated, with Kyiv launching attacks on Russian military targets including oil depots, a submarine, and an airfield. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the Ukrainian forces for these strikes, which he stated were in retaliation for the bombardment Ukraine has faced since Russia invaded over two years ago. The Ukrainian military reported sinking a Russian submarine, attacking a Russian airfield, and hitting oil depots in various regions. Zelenskyy has been requesting permission from Western allies to use their weapons for long-range attacks on Russia. In response, Moscow reported that tanks at a fuel storage depot in Rostov region caught fire as a result of a drone attack, while an oil storage depot in Belgorod was also targeted by drones. Ukraine has been increasing its use of long-range drones to target Russian oil facilities, with the goal of damaging sites that fuel Russian forces and the country’s economy. These attacks bring the conflict between Ukraine and Russia closer to its end, as Zelenskyy continues to call for support from Western allies to aid in the defense against Russian aggression.
