Police officer in Ruidoso arrested for making a false report

The Ruidoso Police Department made headlines when one of its own officers, Matthew Amezquita, was arrested while on duty for making a false report. Amezquita had called in a breaking and entering at an apartment on Sudderth Drive, prompting a response from fellow officers. However, it was later discovered that Amezquita had fabricated the entire incident as he needed to return home to shave before work.

After attempting to purchase a razor at Walmart with a declined credit card, Amezquita was caught on surveillance video leaving the store with a bag of items. Upon returning home to shave, he realized he had left his body camera inside the apartment, leading him to kick in the door. Amezquita later confessed to kicking in the door and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The incident has raised concerns about the credibility of law enforcement officers and their ability to uphold the law. The Ruidoso Police Department has not released any further information about the case, but the arrest of one of their own officers has certainly stirred up controversy within the community. As investigations continue, the department will likely face questions about their hiring and training practices to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
